A Shell and Cosan Joint Venture

A Brazilian organization which produces annually more then 2,2 billions of liters of Ethanol, in order to attend the national and international market, 4 million tons of sugar  and installed capacity of900 MW of electric energy from sugar cane bagasse.  The company has over 4,500 service stations for retail fuel distribuition in Brazil, over 500 convenience stores, 53 fuel distribution depots and aviation fuel business in 54 airports in Brazil.

The name Raízen is the the union of the words “root” and “energy” in Portuguese. The first word means the portion of the plant that takes in nourishment and water necessary for life; and the second is the critical factor for any dynamic: in order to have life or movement, there must be energy.
