Carbon capture
Another initiative by Raízen in the energy field – which also includes environmental protection – is its participation onto the Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM) market (MDL), or carbon credits, created as of the beginning of the Kyoto Protocol. The project is approved by the UN (United Nations) and the credits are granted to Raízen
The Serra unit, in Ibaté – SP, is equipped for that purpose and, as well as becoming self-sufficient in energy cogeneration, it also an electric energy seller, making use of its carbon credits.
